10 Commandments

Cecil B. DeMille Film

If nothing else, The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is relentless in their pursuit of the 10 Commandments.  They recently sued on behalf of a student that did not like the 10 Commandments being displayed on the wall at Narrows High School in Roanoke, Virginia.  The result…the Giles County School Board voted to have it removed.

In turn, the school board voted unanimously to replace The Commandments with a copy of a page from a history textbook that mentions the Ten Commandments in conjunction with American government and morality.

Here is a list of the 10 Commandments, least we forget:

  1. Do not worship any other gods.
  2. Do not make any idols.
  3. Do not misuse the name of God.
  4. Keep the Sabbath holy.
  5. Honor you father and mother.
  6. Do not murder.
  7. Do not commit adultery.
  8. Do not steal.
  9. Do not lie.
  10. Do not covet.

The Christmas Gift

Over the past 10 weeks I have been displaying the 10 commandments, one week at a time; in the upper right hand corner of this website (Did you just look up there to see what it said?).  I planned this 10 weeks ago so the final commandment would be displayed the week of Christmas.  Why?

Because although theses words from God were given to us to help us thrive and live a successful life, how many of us have been able to keep all 10 without breaking a single one.  God tells us in the Bible when we break one of these laws, we have sinned against His love for us.  He then proceeds to explain that the penalty for this violation is death.  If the story ended right here, this would be a very sad life.  Thank God the story continues.

The ultimate Christmas gift God gave to all of us was His only Son, Jesus Christ.  God allowed His Son to be born on Christmas day knowing that the main purpose for Jesus would be to die on the cross in place of us for our sins.  God then continues to tell us that whosoever believes in that fact (Him) shall not perish but have everlasting life.  Now that might not be a gift you will find under your tree, but it is one you can find hidden in your heart.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Amanda Knox Trial

By now most of you have heard about the innocent verdict rendered in the recent Amanda Knox trial.  Four years ago Amanda was convicted of, what one prosecutor said, was a vicious satanic ritualistic murder.  After spending four years in an Italian prison, Ms. Knox now finds herself innocent and heading home to Seattle.  How does one go from guilty to innocent so quickly?  Allow me to offer this answer.

What if four years ago a man would have walked into the court room right in the middle of the trial and approached the bench.  What if that man would have said, “Your honor, Amanda Knox is guilty.  Maybe or maybe not of this particular murder, but she is guilty of breaking numerous laws.  But because she has decided to accept me as her advocate, I am here to take her place and pay whatever penalty or penalties she has coming her way, even if that means I must die on her behalf.”

Pretty ridiculous huh?  Not so.  The truth of the matter is that is exactly what has happened to her and not just to her, but to you and I as well.  Think I’m crazy?  Glance over the 10 commandments.  Have you broken one?
