Anne M. Baxter: A Pew Perspective

I have been asked to be a guest blogger tomorrow, Tuesday August 21st on the website of Anne M. Baxter.  If that name sounds familiar it is because she is the American Christian Fiction Writer’s Northern California representative that interviewed me about Donovan’s Law back on May 11, 2012.  You can read the interview if you like, it is entitled “Why Did I Write A Book? The Anne M. Baxter Interview”.

Tomorrow, I will be blogging about the liquid concoction made with water and coffee beans that over 100 million people enjoy every day.  Let me just send this teaser your way; whether you like coffee or not, you may want to know that experts have found there are some health benefits to slurping down a “Cup o’ Joe” after all.

If you get the chance, check out my blog tomorrow at http://pewperspective.blogspot.com/ .  I would recommend you do so while drinking a cup of coffee.  Then after you read my blog, check out the attached website I will be placing at the bottom of the blog.  By the time you are done reading, that cup of coffee you have may be the best cup of coffee you will ever enjoy.

6 Commandments

In a follow up blog from my Monday’s blog entitled 10 Commandments, I have attached an article that sums up why we can’t reduce them to the 6 Commandments.  This was the suggestion by the judge that oversaw the Giles County School Board case which was mentioned in my Monday’s blog.

The link below is an amazingly written blog and I would highly recommend everyone to take 1 minute out of your day and read what the author, Lauren Green, has to say on this topic.  Please be patient, the link may take a few seconds to load.  Enjoy:

Every Hour of Every Day

In keeping with the theme of “prayer” from last Friday’s blog, I found a news article about a church in Oklahoma that has attempted to keep a prayer vigil going every hour of every day, 24/7, since 2003.  The chapel at St. Joseph’s Church in the city of Norman has designated this feat as “Perpetual Adoration”.

Once again, referring to last Friday’s blog entitled “Leaving California and Heading to Colorado”, the courts may have the power to remove the National Day of Prayer throughout this great nation, but it will not stop the people from praying.  In fact, it may cause the follower’s of Christ to enter into a deeper and more meaningful prayer life.  Of course I believe it would be detrimental to the psyche of our great nation if the National Day of Prayer was removed, but I do not believe that an act like that would hinder the prayers being offered from the people of this great nation.

Luke chapter 19, verses 39 – 40 read, “Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, ‘Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.’  But Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!’”

It’s A God Thing: An Interview With Anne M. Baxter

It was an honor to be interviewed by Anne M. Baxter, the Northern California Coordinator for American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW).  ACFW is known as “The Voice of Christian Fiction”.  So when we made contact a few weeks ago and we began discussing the chance that she would like to interview me about Donovan’s Law, I felt so blessed. In addition to the interview, which she will be posting on Facebook today,  Anne will be publishing her review of Donovan’s Law on her website tomorrow, Thursday May 10th.  Here is a little bit about the organization Anne M. Baxter represents:

ACFW has a “…mission is to promote Christian Fiction through developing the skills of its authors, educating them in the market, and serving as an advocate in the traditional publishing industry.” For more information about American Christian Fiction Writers, please visit their website located at the bottom of this blog.

Now I would like to take a moment and give a heartfelt “Thank You” to Anne M. Baxter.  By the way Anne, I hope you like the book (I’m finding it hard to type with my fingers crossed)…or this could be very embarrassing.

New Laptop Computer

Back on January 11th of this year, I wrote a blog entitled Laptop Computers.  In that blog I indicated that I was in search of a new laptop.  I must say, I was humbled by the number of responses to my rickmayhew@hotmail.com account that I received from well-wishers and sound advisors.  I especially appreciated one person’s advice as to how to purchase a viable used laptop (I should have followed his advice).

I ended up purchasing a new laptop.  Now before I go any further, the words of wisdom from my mother who is no longer with us, has been banging around in my brain ever since I decided to write this piece.  She was the first one I ever heard say, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.”

With sound advice like that, let me begin by letting everyone know how I truly do like my new laptop…however, the fact that I needed customer service the very first day I attempted to power-up, was a disaster.  I spent over an hour on the phone only to hear the buzzing sound of a dead phone line twice.  Then, at the end of my conversation with at least the sixth person I spoke with, I was informed there was nothing they could do unless I wanted to purchase a better service contract for my laptop.

Well fortunately I have a friend who is an IT expert and he was able to solve the problem after about four hours of trial and error.  The good news is that my laptop works great now.  It’s everything I was hoping for in a laptop.

On a different note and in conjunction with my previous blog from January 11th, if you are wondering how many times I used the word laptop in this blog?  The answer is 9 times…one shy of the previous record.

Where’s The Blog?

Today’s blog has been kidnapped.  My publisher invited me to blog on their website today.  She asked if I would talk a little about being a first responder and my book Donovan’s Law.

I am looking forward to seeing you back here on Monday.  Have a great weekend :)
