U.S.A. Forced Into Action

USA Forced Into Action

In his State of the Union address last month, President Obama said the United States would “stand by our allies, strengthen our own missile defense, and lead the world in taking firm action in response to threats.”  It seems he is being true to his words.  With his visit to our allied nation of Israel next week and now North Korea’s recent rocket launch, nuke test, mobile missile and threats as well as Iran being a little over a year away from nuclear capabilities, President Obama and his staff are moving into action.

The United States will deploy additional ground-based missile interceptors on the West Coast and in Alaska in an effort to enhance the nation’s ability to defend itself from an attack by what former President George W. Bush deemed as the “Axis of Evil”.  For those of us not in a position to determine the fate of our nation and the world, here is what the Bible says on the topic:

Fact: “You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end.  For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes.  But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.” (Matthew 24:6-8)

Hope: “But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.  This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:13-14)

Pretending God Does Not Exist

Pretending God does not exist does not mean that He does not exist.  “Unblessing” a highway does not mean the highway is no longer blessed, although some atheists in Florida may disagree.  An organization known as “Polk Under Prayer” asked God to bless the highway leading into Polk County, Florida.  Over the past weekend, a group of atheists known as “Humanists of Florida” arrived at this same highway with a mop, a broom, and water to symbolize the “unblessing” of the highway.

In their opinion, blessing the highway sent the wrong message to visitors who are not Christians.  They believe by “unblessing” the highway they are saying everyone is welcome.  Is it just me or does anyone else find it amusing that if these atheists do not believe in God, then what are they unblessing?

“The eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good.” (Proverbs 15:3)

All Hallow’s Eve

Halloween was not always the costume-wearing candy-gathering event it has evolved into with today’s society.  In fact, the evil folklore that most people accustom this occasion with is something that came along much later after its inception.

The history of Halloween typically links it to a Celtic festival kept by the Gaels and Celts in the British Isles.   It was a celebration of the summer’s end. If you believe this to be the true history, then there is no evidence that it was connected with the dead in pre-Christian times, or that pagan religious ceremonies were held.  However, that does not preclude the fact that in today’s society some individuals and groups have changed this into a celebration of evil and the spiritual forces that go along with their beliefs.

My advice, for what’s its worth, is if you have children, find a church in your area that is celebrating this occasion in a health and safe manner.  Let your kids dress up in a costume that does not represent an evil force and then send them out to gather the goods.

Remember you have the final say as to what gets eaten and what does not.  If you find your favorite candy in their booty of goodies, claim it.  It’s part of your reward for looking out for their best interest.
