Abduction of Another Pastor

Pastor Michel Louis

I know I wrote on Facebook this past Saturday that I would release information regarding the recently completed sequel to Donovan’s Law.  However, I believe this news story about a real life incident will take priority over my fictional novel.  I hope you agree:

Last week my blog was to pray for Pastor Youef Nadarkhani.   Once again, I am sending a blog as a plea for prayer for the abduction of another pastor.  While taking a tour of biblical times, Pastor Michel Louis, along with a 39-year-old Boston woman in the group and a tour guide, were kidnapped in broad daylight Friday in Egypt.

“The abduction took place along the road linking Cairo to the sixth-century St. Catherine’s Monastery, located at the foot of Mount Sinai where the Old Testament says Moses received the stone tablets with the Ten Commandments. The route is a frequent target by Bedouins who abduct tourists to pressure police to meet their demands, which is usually to release a detained relative they say has been unjustly arrested.”

In this case, the kidnappers are claiming their uncle was unjustly arrested and must be released before they will let their captives go.  Please ask your prayer warriors to pray for the safe release of these kidnapped victims, especially Pastor Louis, who battles diabetes.

I know you agree this article is much more important than my book.  However, come back and visit me this coming Wednesday, July 18th.  God willing, I plan to release the information intended for today regarding the sequel entitled So… (Oops, I almost gave it away!).

It’s A God Thing: An Interview With Anne M. Baxter

It was an honor to be interviewed by Anne M. Baxter, the Northern California Coordinator for American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW).  ACFW is known as “The Voice of Christian Fiction”.  So when we made contact a few weeks ago and we began discussing the chance that she would like to interview me about Donovan’s Law, I felt so blessed. In addition to the interview, which she will be posting on Facebook today,  Anne will be publishing her review of Donovan’s Law on her website tomorrow, Thursday May 10th.  Here is a little bit about the organization Anne M. Baxter represents:

ACFW has a “…mission is to promote Christian Fiction through developing the skills of its authors, educating them in the market, and serving as an advocate in the traditional publishing industry.” For more information about American Christian Fiction Writers, please visit their website located at the bottom of this blog.

Now I would like to take a moment and give a heartfelt “Thank You” to Anne M. Baxter.  By the way Anne, I hope you like the book (I’m finding it hard to type with my fingers crossed)…or this could be very embarrassing.

Laptop Computers

In the age where social media has become the mainstay for daily communications, I have decided to begin my search for the perfect laptop computer.  I’m looking for a laptop that is powerful, easy to use, and not too expensive.  Is that going to be too much to ask for? I know there are iPhones and Smartphones out there that can take the place of a laptop, but I like my laptop.  I use my laptop for writing, checking emails and Facebook, and running my website.  I truly don’t need anything too elaborate.  I am just looking for a dependable laptop.

My current laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1501 and is about six years old so I feel I have definitely got my monies worth from this investment.  However, it is finally on its last micro-chip.  Between computer freezing, hourglass spins, and the fact it really hates Facebook operations, tasks that should take me five minutes to complete can now take up to 20 or even 30 minutes if I can complete them at all.

So, I’ve decided to pull in the wisdom of my IT friends and colleagues in hopes that they will direct me down the proper path to laptop utopia. I know you all are on pins and needles over this new drama in my life so I will keep you informed as the saga unfolds.  By the way, in case you were wondering, I used the word “laptop” nine times in three paragraphs…I just like the word “laptop”…make that 10.

Christmas Shopping

My wife and I spent the evening Christmas shopping.  I mean really Christmas shopping, like in the retail stores and stuff.  I know, most of you are thinking we must be crazy.  Why go out into the crowds when you can shop on-line and get free shipping right to your front door?  You are right.  It makes more sense to do the purchase electronically, but somehow it just does not feel like Christmas when all I have to do is click a button and poof…Christmas is here.

There is something about being out in the crisp, moonlit evening, driving through the streets and seeing the Christmas lights dancing off the houses, and listening to Christmas music in the car.  Then, we begin to talk about what we are going to buy our friends and family and I visualize the happy expressions on their faces on Christmas day.

It’s true that the internet has made things a lot easier.  There is definitely a plus to purchasing items over the computer when time is tight.  But if you have the opportunity this year, take a drive.  Christmas shop the old fashion way.  If nothing else, it’s a great way to get out of the daily rut of T.V. and Facebook. By the way, we did this on a weeknight.  If you’re brave enough to venture out to shop on the weekend…you might have a slightly different experience.

Facebook

About a year ago a film came out entitled The Social Network.  As most of you know, this film portrays the founding of the social networking phenomenon known as Facebook and the lawsuits that occurred over the website’s creation.  Whether you believe the movie to be factual or not does not negate the fact that this communication tool is off the chart.

Facebook has been connecting and reconnecting people for years now.  Personally it has brought me back in touch with people as far back as grade school.  Even more impressive is the fact that, while I was in Thailand a few weeks ago, the friends I made over there told me to contact them.  When I asked for their email address they just smiled and said, “I’m on Facebook.”  Sure enough, by the time I had landed back in the U.S. and checked my Facebook, there they were, requesting my friendship.  However, I must admit I do have a hard time following their posts because most of the time their communication is done in the Thai language…another amazing accomplishment by the Facebook people.  All of this to say that I am so impressed with what FB has accomplished that I began to do some research.

One article I read stated as of today, there are three major types of communications.  Those of you who are 50 years old and older would prefer to communicate by voice such as face to face or by phone.  Those that are 25 to 49 years of age prefer to use the written word but do not like to be limited in their speech so they prefer texting or Facebook.  Finally, those that are under 25 years old prefer Twitter.  So what does all this mean? I’m not certain but I do know that the way we communicate has changed forever and Facebook has truly made the world a smaller place.
