The Bible: An Epic Action Mini-Series

The Bible-An Epic Action Mini-Series

With endorsements from Focus on the Family and Pastor Rick Warren, the famous Hollywood producer Mark Burnett and his wife Roma Downey have developed a mini-series that has created quite the buzz.  Burnett is the producer of the popular shows “Survivor”, “Celebrity Apprentice”, “The Voice”, and “Shark Tank”. Downey is famous in her own right for her role in the popular 1990’s television series “Touched By An Angel”.

The former military paratrooper who found fame and fortune in Hollywood by producing reality shows for television was initially overwhelmed when his wife suggested, over four years ago, that they make a television mini-series based on the Bible.  Downey told her husband she wanted to be part of something that would glorify God.

With a $22 million budget, the producers aimed to create an epic action mini-series with computer-generated images that would entertain the viewer, with or without an understanding of the Bible.  Downey said. “We have incredible special effects with Moses parting the Red Sea, Jesus walking on water. We have this amazing international cast.”  Mr. Burnett was quoted in the L.A. Times saying, “It’s a grand narrative, but it tells a pretty simple story about God’s never-ending love for all of us. It’s hopeful. It’s inspirational. Maybe it’ll get people’s hearts to open.”

The series began last night on the History Channel at 8 p.m. It was the first of five two-hour episodes that will air each weekend with the final episode airing on Easter Sunday.   So set the DVR and be prepared to take the journey that not only changed the history of mankind, but the future as well.

Israel vs. Palestine

America has made its choice as far as the office for the President of the United States is concerned.  I believe we are about to discover if our choice was correct.  As of this blog, Israel is on the brink of war with Hamas and it appears Egypt is in support of the Hamas rulers.

Hamas has been hitting Israel with rockets for several days and the Prime Minister of Israel; Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters that Israel could no longer stand-by and do nothing about the repeated attacks.  Netanyahu stated, “If there is a need, the military is prepared to do everything to protect our citizens.”  In a sign of  retaliation, Israel has now begun to fire back.  Some may already consider this a war, but in the middle-east, this is a prelude.

During America’s primary presidential election campaign, the Prime Minister spoke with President Obama and asked for America’s support because he believed war with Hamas was imminent.  I am not clear as to the Obama Administration’s true belief when it comes to the on-going Israeli/Palestinian conflict, but I do know what the footnote from the Amplified Bible says regarding Genesis Chapter 12 Verse 3 when God is talking to Abraham about the future land we now know as Israel:

“And I will bless those who bless you and curse him who curses or uses insolent language toward you; in you will all the families and kindred of the earth be blessed.”

Footnote = To look with disfavor on the Jews was to invite God’s displeasure; to treat the Jews offensively was to incur His wrath. But to befriend the Jews was to bring down upon one’s head the rewards of a promise that could not be broken.

Veterans Day History

Veterans Day is the official federal holiday when we celebrate and honor all armed service veterans.  Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who lost their lives while serving. Veterans Day was originally known as “Armistice Day”, but Congress amended this act on June 1, 1954, replacing “Armistice” with “Veterans,” and it has been known as Veterans Day ever since.  What was Armistice you may ask?

Armistice was the agreement the Germans signed at the end of World War I.  This signing formally ended the military conflict at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. Therefore we acknowledge here in America that the official day to show homage to our Veterans is always on November 11thHowever, we find ourselves celebrating today Monday, November 12th, as well because anytime a federal holiday falls on a Sunday, most of us take Monday off from work.  This is a prime example of the unique freedom we enjoy here in America because of the sacrifices our military men and women have made over the years.

So with sincere honor, appreciation, and gratitude I say to my family, friends, and all military personnel both current and past:

“THANK YOU!”

“Thank You” for helping to secure our freedom here in the United States of America.  The “One Nation Under God” that I hope and pray will continue to remain “indivisible”.

For The Betterment Of Others

Most of the time it is firefighters, police officers, and military personnel receiving the acknowledgement that they have chosen a profession that may require them to lay down their lives for the betterment of others.  Very rarely do we hear of other occupations that occasionally require self-sacrifice to the point of death.  I have discovered that National Park Rangers are heroes in the true sense of the word.

One of Mount Rainier National Park ranger’s fell to his death the other day while attempting to rescue four climbers who found themselves in need of help.  It appears that two of the four climbers fell into a crevasse.  The Ranger, Nick Hall, 34 years old, was one of the Rangers that responded to the cell phone call from one of the climbing party members.

Jesus said in the book of John Chapter 15, Verse 13, “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”  I can’t help but wonder what Jesus would say when one loses his/her life for a stranger, as is the case with Nick Hall.

Please remember to pray for Nick’s family as they try to grasp the magnitude of this loss.
